That is a great tool and I have used it a lot myself. It is also wise to discuss bandwidth with the manufacturer of the IP camera so you can get accurate bandwidth requirements.

I see you have just released a IP camera bandwidth calculator as a saleable item.

I find this ammusing as there is no commonality between models and compressions that can be put into a standard calculator.
80% of the market use the TI DSP chipset for compression, which will give the same results. However brands such as Axis, Sony, Bosch, IndigoVision, Mobitix write their own compression and this will only match thier own calculators.

Refer this document for an overview of why

You are right. Therefore we tried to make a calculator which is adjustable for different camera models and compressions thus it can be real universal. Here is a quotation from the Help system:

Video compression technologies are developed constantly together with increasing computing power of camera chips. In different CCTV equipment different compression algorithms and their versions can be used. Even quantity, names and "influence" of compression levels of different equipment can differ. It makes impossible creation of an universal calculator whose results would be equally correct for any equipment and even for different generations of equipment from the same manufacturer.

Correct calculator should take into account features of used equipment. For this reason calculators from camera manufacturers are valued highly. The best example of such calculator is a calculator from Axis Communication, Axis Design Tool.

But what will you do, if in one project cameras of different manufacturers are used, or the manufacturer does not offer any calculator?

To take into account features of any equipment, compressions and scenes in CCTVCAD Calculator, patterns are used.

A pattern is a structured text file, contains results of practical measuring traffic of cameras at set of compression algorithms and levels, at different frame rates and for different scenes.
.................................................................

See Help>Patterns for details.

In addition CCTVCAD Calculator can import data from VideoCAD and has several other new useful features. The price is not high and registration is only personal registration code without HID or dongle locking. It is useful supplement for VideoCAD made as requested by many customers. But it can be used separately too.

In spite of all complications and ambiguity it is necessary to estimate disk space somehow. We offer a tool which can help in this estimation.
